Paper Mache Bowls
You may also find unique Handcast-Handmade
paperclay bowls at Precision Studio. The artist
starts with shredded glossy magazines, the surface
of which are clay-coated. This provides some body
to the sculptured vessels. The Fibers are then
soaked and put into a blender to further break
them down. The paper pulp is then squeezed to
release the excess liquid and binder is then added
to yield a sticky gray clay-like substance. The clay
is then sculpted over a form and baked int he oven
to further dry it out. Once it has yielded all
moisture, it is carefully removed from the form and
embellished with Golden Acrylics, mica flakes,
metallic and iridescent pigments, and metal leafing.
The finished containers are then sprayed or
brushed with an Acrylic UV-protective sealer. This
artist found a great way to recycle as well as create
something beautiful!
